ROSA – Border Collie/Catahoula – Female- 4Y

Hi! I'm Rosa!

Hi! I’m Rosa!

Rosa is a four year old Border Collie/Catahoula Cur mix in need of a forever home. She was adopted by her foster family when they fell in love with her, but sadly their alpha female dog will not adjust. Fights between the two have resulted and the painful decision was made to find a home better suited for Rosa and the attributes she has to offer.

Rosa is an excellent house dog; happy to sit at your feet and periodically cast her adoring eyes in your face. She will quietly watch as you perform household activities or gardening. In other words she wants to be where you are. At night she is grateful to have her own bed and quietly curls up at the foot of the bed, near where you are, of course!

She loves to chase balls and go on walks. She is a fearless athlete and whether it is wide peripheral vision or ability to sense the “big picture,” she has the ability to easily spot a curve ball or unexpected twist of the Frisbee. She is highly intelligent, eager to please, and grasps new concepts quickly.

Rosa needs more work with the leash. Since she was left tied to a porch rail with a leash over a winter, she understandably has a hard time with pressure around her neck. Her owner has found that a “head collar” works much better because it puts pressure in a different area. She needs someone to continue to work patiently with her in this area until she understands she really is no longer tied to a porch rail and can relax on a leash.

She is also more timid with men than women, loves children and gets along with an older mild-mannered male dog. It has been reported that she was around a cat when she was a puppy, but not as an adult. Because of her history, she goes into a defensive mode when approached by strange dogs, but relaxes when she determines they are friendly. If attacked she will fight to defend herself.

She is spayed, up to date on shots and knows the commands, “sit,” “stay” and has recently learned “wait” when you go out the door and to come when you say “okay.” She has learned the same scenario when putting the food dish down.

Rosa would be perfectly happy as the only dog if she gets to remain close to her master as much as possible. She will be a devoted companion for a lucky person or family.
